Roger Strobel

Roger Strobel, UC Associate Director of Building Services, was recently presented the 2014 Greening UM Award.

Each year Sustainable Campus Committee recognizes a student, an administrator, a faculty member and a staff member for outstanding participation in creating a sustainable campus with the Greening UM Award.

Strobel was the winner in the staff category.

Strobel heads up the University Center’s efforts to adopt the UM Green Cleaning Product Policy. The policy calls for the voluntary adopting of third-party certified green cleaning products and the phasing out of un-certified products. The UC is the campus leader in adoption, with green-certified products making up 71 percent of products in use. The campus average is 17 percent.

Strobel also serves on the UM Green Cleaning Workgroup, the group charged with creating the policy.

A veteran of over 30 years at the UC, Strobel has impressed his sustainable values on thousands of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Under Strobel's leadership in just the past year, the UC has invested $1.7 million in improving energy efficiency, saving $70,000/year in utility costs. Strobel also lives green, having never purchased bottled water and commuting via bike year-round.

Greening UM is a coalition representing all UM sustainability initiatives.
