Hilary Martens, B.S and B.A., University of Montana 2008, Physics and Music
Hilary Martens (UM graduate, 2008) is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in Physics at the California Institute of Technology on a National Science Foundation Fellowship. Martens previously earned two Master’s degrees in space science at University College London and Cambridge University on a Marshall Scholarship. While attending UM, she received the Goldwater Scholarship for excellence in and commitment to science and the Watkins Scholarship for research. In 2007, she was named one of Glamour magazine´s Top Ten College Women. At UM, Martens was part of a team of international scientists working on NASA’s Cassini Mission to Saturn. For her Senior Research Project in the Davidson Honors College, she was the lead author of a research publication in a peer‑reviewed scholarly journal: “Observations of molecular oxygen ions in Saturn’s inner magnetosphere,” Geophysical Research Letters, vol. 35, 2008.
