Transportation

Mountain Line Buses Missoula has a zero-fare bus system and the UM campus is on the Bolt! line, with buses every 15 minutes. It's a great way to get around and avoid parking on campus. Check out the Mountain Line website for information about schedules ,maps, and other information.

Free Cycles Community bike shop focused on education, empowerment, and community engagement. At Free Cycles, you can build a bike for yourself in exchange for four hours of volunteering, take classes on bicycle maintenance and safety, and use their shop to work on your bike--all for free or donation.

Food Resources

Garden City Harvest Garden City Harvest provides community garden plots to Missoulians and offers volunteer opportunities where you can receive fresh veggies in exchange for helping out at one of their neighborhood farms.

Western Montana Growers Cooperative If you are interested in participating in a regularly delivered CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share or becoming a co-op member, this is a great place to start. 

Missoula Food Bank If you’re ever in need of emergency food assistance, the Missoula Food Bank is the place to go. It’s easy, confidential, and free.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Double SNAP Dollars program As a student, if you work at least 20 hours a week and earn under $2000 a month, you may qualify for state food benefits. You can use your SNAP card at most local grocery stores, as well as the farmers markets, the Missoula Farmers Market and the Clark Fork Market. Receive a dollar-for-dollar match when you buy fruits and veggies (and starts for your garden) with your SNAP card at certain locations. The Missoula Community Food Co-op, both of the farmers markets, and the Western Montana Growers Co-op participate in the Double SNAP Dollars program.

Missoula Urban Demonstration Project and Tool Library Working on a project? As a member of MUD, you can access their tool library and truck share program. The tool library rents out everything from hammers and shovels to table saws and lawn mowers to kitchen equipment. MUD also organizes workshops throughout the year for members and non-members on gardening, building, food preservation, and more. Membership fees are sliding scale, and start at $30 a year.

Free/Donation Yoga
Le Petite Outre bakery hosts a weekly yoga class that is open to the Missoula community and they only ask for a suggested donation of $3 per class. Classes are Mondays from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. 

YMCA The Y offers fitness classes, swimming lessons, gym facilities, a youth hangout spot, cpr & first aid classes, childcare and preschool facilities, youth camps, and much more. Financial assistance may be available. 

Childcare

Childcare Resources Graduate students may be eligible for the Best Beginnings Scholarship, which provides childcare scholarships to qualified, low-income families.

Missoula boasts five wilderness areas within a two-hour drive--not to mention all the other public land in the vicinity!
