Introduction

This style guide is easy to use. Remember that the entries are aimed at improving University of Montana publications and making them more consistent with one another. But no one will rap you on the knuckles for not following every suggestion.

The guide goes beyond giving advice on subjects like academic titles, room names and use of "The University of Montana." It also addresses grammar and commonly misspelled words. Appendix A addresses punctuation. Appendix B offers suggestions for avoiding sexist language, and Appendix C lists the correct spellings of building names. Appendix D lists the units in the Montana University System and The University of Montana.

The main section of the guide is organized alphabetically. Where necessary, it will have a linked cross reference. For example, "scholarships" is listed under "S," but the entry refers you to the "awards, fellowships, scholarships" entry for a full discussion.
