The event begins at 11:15 a.m. in the University Theatre. A reception will follow, offering students and parents an opportunity to visit with UM faculty and staff.

 Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photographer to Speak

Griz Fans Invited to 'Wear the Bear' on Fridays

Griz Nation, a new tradition starts now. Fans and followers of Grizzly Athletics are asked to show their spirit on Fridays by wearing UM apparel to work, school or anywhere else.

The first official Wear the Bear -- Paint Montana Maroon Friday will be Sept. 4, which coincides with College Colors Day, an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the spirit and traditions that make the college experience great. UM officials hope that Wear the Bear Fridays will become a custom that marches on long after College Colors Day.

Businesses statewide can sign up to officially be part of the Wear the Bear -- Paint Montana Maroon campaign by e-mailing grizzlymarketing@mso.umt.edu.

Businesses that register will receive a "spirit pack" containing decorations such as posters, pennants and pom-poms. They also will be eligible for prizes and drawings. How about this? Those registering should include the business name and address, number of employees, and contact information for the person registering and the business office manager.

NCAA Allows Play-Off Games in Montana

Montana college sports fans can breathe easier. The NCAA Executive Committee has adopted a policy relating to sports wagering and the conduct of NCAA championships that will allow future college play-off games to be held in Montana.

UM President George Dennison said, "We appreciate the deliberate thoughtfulness of the NCAA Executive Committee in developing and adopting a policy that maintains the integrity of sporting events, while at the same time recognizing the gaming situation in the state of Montana."

The new policy says that no NCAA championship may be conducted in a state that allows gambling based upon single-game betting. Montana allows sports pools/pull tabs, and the state lottery runs a fantasy sports game for professional sports. These activities do not qualify as single-game betting under the policy.

 UM Among Nation's Best Colleges

UM once again is listed among the top four-year colleges and universities in North America by the Princeton Review.

The 2010 edition, "The Best 371 Colleges," was released in July. The rankings are based on surveys of more than 122,000 undergraduate students. The 80-question survey asks students to rate their school on several topics and report their campus experiences. Top schools, including UM, received a two-page profile with student comments.

Only about 15 percent of the nation's four-year colleges and two Canadian colleges made "The Best 371 Colleges."

View Painting by Artist Richard Prince

"Country Nurse," a 2003 painting by renowned artist Richard Prince, will be available for public viewing at UM through Wednesday, Nov. 25.

The 79½-by-52¼-inch inkjet print and acrylic on canvas, on loan to the Montana Museum of Art & Culture from an anonymous lender, is in UM's Main Hall President's Office lobby. The lobby is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except during University holidays.

Since 2003, Prince has depicted a series of 42 nurses drawn from covers of 1950s and 1960s pulp romance novels. To create these works, he digitally scans and enlarges the book covers, then transfers the images to canvas using an inkjet printer before applying passages of paint to accentuate or obliterate elements of the covers.

For more information, call MMAC at 406-243-2019 or go to the museum's Web site.
