National Experts to Discuss Forest Policy at Annual Law Conference

Renowned experts in forestry law and policy will converge at UM for the 34th Public Land Law Conference Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 14-16. "Strengthening Our Roots: Forest Law and Policy in a Changing World" will focus on emerging issues in forest law and policy. Conference sessions, which are free and open to the public, will be held at the University Center and begin with an opening keynote address at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 in the UC Theater. Read more

UM Using New Learning Management System 
UM has transitioned to a new open-source learning management system called Moodle. The transition began last spring, and initial feedback from faculty has indicated a preference for Moodle over Blackboard. Read more
Scoop Up Fun at 10th Annual Ice Cream Social

The 10th Annual University Community Ice Cream Social to welcome new and returning students to The University of Montana and Missoula neighborhoods will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. Read more

Bitterroot College Program Hosts 'Business Success' Seminar Oct. 6
Residents of the Bitterroot Valley and beyond are invited to bounce business ideas off some of the industry's best minds during a seminar in Hamilton next month. Sponsored by the Bitterroot College Program of The University of Montana, the event will run from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Hamilton Performing Arts Center. Read more

National Science Foundation Awards UM $250,000 Research Grant
UM researchers are teaming up with K-12 teachers of the Montana Geographic Alliance to develop and test middle school curriculum designed to illuminate cultural and environmental changes in North America while simultaneously teaching students cyber-based skills. Read more
Regents Professor Emeritus Allendorf Honored by American Fisheries Society

UM Regents Professor Emeritus Fred Allendorf recently received the American Fisheries Society's 2011 Award of Excellence. The award, one of the organization's most prestigious, is presented for original and outstanding contributions to fisheries and aquatic biology. Read more

Billings Little League Team Guests of Honor at Griz Football Home Opener

The most famous Little League team from the state of Montana will be honored in the Garden City on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the UM Grizzlies' 2011 home opener against the Cal Poly Mustangs. Read more

Tennessee Takes Win Over UM Grizzlies
The UM Grizzlies struggled to get the offense on track and the Tennessee Volunteers used that momentum to cruise to a 42-16 victory Sept. 3 in Knoxville, Tenn. Read more
Griz Spikers Place Second at Tourney
The UM volleyball team won in five sets for the second time in two matches to finish 2-1 and take second Sept. 3 at the North Dakota Classic in Grand Forks. Read more
Vandals Hand Griz First Loss of Season
The University of Idaho gave the Montana soccer team its first loss of the season in the final game of the Governor's Cup on Sept. 4 in Moscow, Idaho. Read more
UM's Women Harriers Picked Second

The UM women's cross country team was picked second in the 2011 preseason coaches' poll.

The men's team was picked for a sixth-place finish. Read more
