MMAC Exhibition Features Art of WWII Veteran, Bataan Death March Survivor

As a survivor of the Bataan Death March and a Japanese prisoner of war for more than three years, Montana artist Ben Steele's work provides some of the most haunting images of World War II. A new exhibition opening Friday, Sept. 23, at the Montana Museum of Art & Culture at UM features his oil paintings and drawings. Read more

UM Receives $9.9 Million National Institutes of Health Grant

UM recently received a five-year, $9.9 million grant from the National Center for Research Resources, an entity of the National Institutes of Health, to fund research on physiological processes and diseases from the standpoint of atomic structure, chemistry and physics. Read more

University to Honor Four Distinguished Alums at Homecoming

Four outstanding UM graduates will receive 2011 Distinguished Alumni Awards during Homecoming weekend festivities Sept. 30 - Oct.1. The awards are the highest honor presented by the UM Alumni Association. This year's distinguished alumni are Thomas Dahmer of Hong Kong, Jack Shanstrom of Billings, J.K. Simmons of Hollywood, Calif., and Brian Wesbury of Wheaton, Ill. Read more

UM Introduces Socially Responsible Apparel
UM will discuss its partnership with Knights Apparel, a licensed manufacturer of Griz products and creator of the Alta Gracia brand, during a panel presentation from 10:50 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in Law Building Room 101. Read more

Series Explores Central, Southwest Asia
UM's Central and Southwest Asian Studies Center invites the campus community to explore issues important to the region during its autumn semester Brown Bag Lecture Series. Read more

UM Tech Fair Set for Sept. 21
UM students, faculty and staff are invited to the second annual Tech Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the University Center Atrium. Read more

University Hosts Meeting of Tribal Leaders

UM will host a panel discussion featuring tribal leaders from across Big Sky Country at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in the Bonnie HeavyRunner Gathering Place of The Payne Family Native American Center. Read more

Creative Writing Program Hosts Fall Opus 
Enjoy an evening of fine food and beverages, as well as silent and live auctions, Friday, Sept. 23, at the Writers' Fall Opus, a fundraiser for UM's Creative Writing Program. Read more

Mansfield Center Lecture Series Begins
The Fall 2011 Brown Bag Lecture Series hosted by the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center at UM will begin Tuesday, Sept. 20. Read more
'Montana Monologs'Actors to Perform 'Montana Monologs' at Roxy Theater

"The Montana Monologs," a series of pieces culled from the oral histories of Montana ranch women, will hit the stage of the Roxy Theater Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23-24, and Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Read more

Stand-up comedian Brian Regan will bring his sarcastic, self-deprecating humor to UM when he performs live at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in the University Theatre. Read more
Mansfield Center Hosts Chinese Delegation

Twenty Chinese natural resource professionals have arrived in Montana in a two-way exchange program under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of State and organized by UM's Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center. The program sends Americans to China and brings Chinese citizens to the U.S., with the goal of increasing understanding of natural resource issues and one another. Read more

UM 'Math Day' Offers Fun Learning for Missoula Students

Missoula eighth-grade and high school students and teachers interested in multiplying their mathematics knowledge are invited to participate in Math Day activities this month at UM. The Department of Mathematic Sciences will observe the day on Friday, Sept. 23, with free, daylong workshops on various topics, a career panel and lunch, all held in the Gallagher Business Building. Read more

Griz beat Cal-Poly 37-23 in 2011 Home Opener

 

The UM Grizzlies dominated the second half and registered a hard-fought 37-23 victory Sept. 10 over the Cal Poly Mustangs in UM's Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

 

The Griz host defending FCS national champion Eastern Washington on Saturday, Sept. 17, in the teams' Big Sky Conference opener.

to Rally on the Road
The UM volleyball team will open Big Sky Conference play this week with matches at Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona. Read more

Cross Country Teams Head to Bozeman

The UM cross country teams open the 2011 season Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Bozeman Running Company Montana State Invitational. Read more
UM Soccer Team Heads to North Dakota
The UM soccer team will attempt to snap a three-match losing streak this week when the Grizzlies travel to face North Dakota State and North Dakota. Read more
Griz Golf Wraps Up First Tournament
The Montana golf team placed 11th in the Circling Raven Invitational tournament earlier this week in Worley, Idaho. Read more
