UM Professor Jack Stanford
UM Professor Receives Prestigious Awards 

UM Professor Jack Stanford recently received two prestigious awards for his work in the field of river ecology: one recognizing lifetime achievement and the other for exceptional conservation. 


Stanford has spent his entire career working at UM's Flathead Lake Biological Station, where he directed the development of the ecological research program, which has achieved worldwide prominence. Read more

MMAC Exhibition Featured by National Endowment for the Arts 

Montana artist, World War II veteran and Bataan Death March survivor Ben Steele will be profiled on Art Works, the official blog of the National Endowment for the Arts, in honor of Veterans Day. Steele is the subject of the Montana Museum of Art & Culture exhibition "War Torn: The Art of Ben Steele: Paintings and Drawings from the Bataan Death March" at UM through Nov. 19. Read more

International Education Week at UM Nov. 14-18

UM will hold events Monday through Friday, Nov. 14-18, to celebrate International Education Week. All events are free and open to the public. The opening ceremony is at noon Monday, Nov. 14, in the University Center Atrium. Read more

President's Lecture Series Features Humanitarian Aid Expert

Dr. Kevin M. Cahill, a leading expert on tropical medicine who has led humanitarian efforts throughout the world for nearly five decades, will present the next installment of the President's Lecture Series at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, in the University Center Ballroom at UM. Read more

UM Celebrates, Remembers Veterans  

UM's newly formed Veterans Education and Transition Services Office will host events this week to honor the U.S. Marine Corps and to celebrate and remember veterans. Read more
Adopt a Family, Veteran This Holiday Season

The UM Office for Civic Engagement will team up with the Salvation Army, the Poverello Center and Valor House this holiday season for the 15th annual Adopt-A-Family and third annual Adopt-A-Veteran programs. Read more

Participate in CHINA Town Hall Event Nov. 16

UM will participate in a unique 50-city event, "CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections," on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Read more

Climate Change Expert to Deliver Lecture  

Climate change law expert Michael Gerrard will deliver the 2011 Hampton Lecture at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, in Gallagher Business Building Room 106 at UM. Read more

Greeks Plan Weekend of Giving Back
Members of UM's fraternities and sororities will do their part to contribute to the 10th annual "Can the Cats" food drive against Montana State University before the annual Griz-Cat football game Saturday, Nov. 19, in Bozeman. Read more

Anthropology Students Win National Awards

Thirty students in Garry Kerr's Introduction to Anthropology course at UM are among the winners of the Public Anthropology Award. Read more

Study: Climate Change Affects Region's Forests

A new study co-written by UM Regents Professor Steve Running suggests that climate change, insect attacks, diseases and fire will cause many tree species across the Northwest to migrate, decline or even die out over the next few centuries. The study, published in the journal Remote Sensing and the Environment, outlines the impact that a changing climate will have on which tree species can survive, and where. Read more

Montana Public Radio Gears Up for 'Go Public' Fall Fundraiser

Montana Public Radio recently launched its annual "Go Public" campaign with the goal of raising $230,000 to fund its operating budget by the end of the year while helping area food banks keep their shelves stocked for the busy holiday season. MTPR will host an on-air fundraising drive from 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, through 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18. Read more

Soccer Faces Nation's Best
The Montana soccer team will face Stanford at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Soccer Championship in Palo Alto, Calif. Read more

The UM chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity is currently accepting donations for its biennial "Run to Bozeman" fundraiser. Read more

Cross Country Races in Utah

The Montana men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Provo, Utah. Read more

The latest episode of the popular MontanaPBS travelogue series "Backroads of Montana" will air at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14. Read more

Golfers Take 11th in Texas

UM had its best team average of the season and finished 11th against fierce competition at the Challenge at Onion Creek golf tournament in Austin, Texas. Read more

Griz Beat Wolves in Nonleague Contest

Kicker Brody McKnight kicked a school-record six field goals and halfback Peter Nguyen rushed for a career-high 149 yards to lead UM to a 32-7 victory over Western Oregon on Nov. 5. Read more

Down two sets to one and trailing 19-14 in the fourth set, the Montana volleyball team rallied for a victory over Montana State on Nov. 4 at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. Read more

MSU Northern
The Montana women's basketball team defeated the MSU Northern Skylights 70-48 on Nov. 7 at Dahlberg Arena in the team's final exhibition game of the preseason. Read more
