UM Researcher Richard Bridges Earns Title of Regents Professor
Regents Professor Rich Bridges

UM Professor Richard Bridges joined an elite group on Nov. 18 when the state Board of Regents unanimously voted to name him Regents Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Regents Professor is the top rank awarded to faculty members in the Montana University System. Bridges is only the ninth UM professor to earn the title since the policy of naming Regents Professors started in 1991.

Journalists to Discuss Legacy of American Bombs in Laos

Almost every day an old American bomb kills or maims a Laotian villager.


The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center at UM will host a lecture and photographic essay about this tragedy titled "Eternal Harvest: The Legacy of American Bombs in Laos."


The conversation will feature Karen Coates, T. Anthony Pollner Distinguished Professor at UM, and photojournalist Jerry Redfern. It will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Todd Building Room 204. The event is free and open to the public. Read more


Professor to Present Talk at TED Event  

Jakki Mohr has rehearsed her TEDx talk so many times now, she's saying it in her sleep. The dozens of hours spent fine-tuning will pay off when Mohr delivers her talk at the TEDxSanDiego event this Saturday, Dec. 3. Read more
Hundreds of COT Courses Available Online

Through a recently formed partnership, anyone with an Internet connection can now access hundreds of courses offered by UM's College of Technology. Read more

Walk Challenges Violence Against Women

UM's Women's Resource Center, in partnership with the Missoula Women for Peace, will host a local event to observe 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, an annual worldwide campaign that raises awareness about violence against women. Read more

MontanaPBS Producer Wins National Award

Gus Chambers, a television producer at UM's Broadcast Media Center and MontanaPBS, received a Programming Excellence Award from American Public Television for his documentary "Glacier Park's Night of the Grizzlies." Read more

UM Grad Receives Mitchell Scholarship  

UM graduate Ashleen Williams has been named the University's first Mitchell Scholar. Williams is one of 12 students who will pursue postgraduate studies at universities across Ireland and Northern Ireland next year. Read more

Professor Presents at National Book Awards  

Author Deirdre McNamer could have spent last summer writing and relaxing, if she hadn't accepted an invitation to read and judge the 315 novels entered in the 2011 National Book Awards. 
UC Tech LoungeUniversity Center Hosts Tech Lounge Grand Opening

In response to students' interest in more dynamic learning spaces, UM has created a new Tech Lounge located in University Center Room 220. A grand opening will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, Dec. 5. The event will include an introduction to the lounge technology and an ice cream social. Read more


Study by UM Researcher Offers New Approach to River Science

A new study co-written by a UM researcher may provide unique clues on the impact river soundscapes have on biodiversity. The study, published in the most recent edition of the journal Limnology and Oceanography, examined the soundscapes of five rivers in North America and Europe, including the Middle and North forks of the Flathead River. Read more

Bitterroot College Program Celebrates Expansion
The Bitterroot College Program of UM will host a gala event in Hamilton from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, to celebrate its recent expansion. The open house is free and open to the public. Read more
Art Thesis Exhibition
Thesis Exhibition Opens at Gallery of Visual Arts
The UM School of Art will present "Seeing Red Feeling Yellow," a Masters of Fine Arts thesis exhibition by Randi O'Brien, in the Gallery of Visual Arts through Friday, Dec. 16. Read more

UM Football Team Heads into Playoffs
Griz to Host Central Arkansas in Second-Round Playoff Game


The Grizzlies will host the Central Arkansas University Bears in a second-round Football Championship Subdivision playoff game that kicks off at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Read more


The Grizzlies (9-2) are coming off a bye week. Montana had an impressive 36-10 victory Nov. 19 over the previously top-ranked Montana State Bobcats. MSU (9-2) plays New Hampshire (8-3) on Saturday, Dec. 3, in Bozeman in another second-round contest. Read more

UM head football coach Robin PflugradPflugrad Named Big Sky Coach of the Year

UM head football coach Robin Pflugrad has been chosen by his fellow league coaches as the 2011 Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year, the conference announced Nov. 23.


"This is a team award, and I am very honored and humbled to accept on behalf of our players and our coaches," Pflugrad said. Read more


Lady Griz basketballHill's Three Gives Lady Griz Dramatic Victory

In a tight game that featured 11 lead changes, Montana's Torry Hill had the decisive play -- a 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining that broke a 57-57 tie -- to lead the Lady Griz to a 61-60 victory over Utah State on Nov. 30 at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. Read more

Guard Will Cherry hit a short jump shot with 38 seconds to go that enabled the Grizzlies to retake the lead, and the Griz went on to defeat a talented Long Beach State 49er team 73-71 in an exciting game Nov. 26 in UM's Dahlberg Arena. Read more
