 Griz to Battle Bearkats in FCS Semifinal Playoff  

The fifth-ranked Montana Grizzlies play the top-ranked, top-seeded and undefeated Sam Houston State University Bearkats at 6:05 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, in a NCAA Football Championship Subdivision semifinal playoff game in SHSU's Bowers Stadium. The game will air on ESPN. Read more


The Grizzlies defeated the visiting University of Northern Iowa Panthers in a NCAA 2011 Division I Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinal game in a dominating fashion, 48-10, on Friday, Dec. 9. Read more


Also this week, UM's Bobby Alt and Bryan Waldhauser were named to the prestigious 2011 Capital One Academic All-American Division I football team as announced by College Sports Information Director's of America. Read more

Brazilian Students to Study at UM

A cohort of Brazilian students will arrive at UM in January as part of a new partnership with Brazil's Science Without Borders Program. Read more

Registration Open for Lifelong Learning

Community members ages 50 and older can explore topics such as literature, history, music, philosophy and politics in winter term courses offered by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UM. Read more

Students Award $10,000 to Local Nonprofits

School of Business Administration students taking the Individual and Corporate Philanthropy class at UM recently dispersed grant funds totaling $10,000 to Missoula nonprofits. Read more

Grant to Fund Women's Empowerment Group

The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center at UM has received a $400,000 grant to implement a new citizen exchange program. Read more

Journalism Student Places Third in Hearst

A UM journalism student took third place in the feature writing category of the national Hearst Journalism Awards for a story she wrote about hitting a teenager on the freeway in Washington state. Read more

UM Launches Partnership with Renewable Chemical Company

Two geoscience faculty members at UM have started a partnership with a private company to sustainably produce commercial products from algal biomass


Potential products include organic fertilizers, natural pigments, food flavorings, fatty acids for biofuels, cholesterol-reducing compounds for food additives, and natural anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer drugs. Natural inputs and nontoxic production methods will give potential products a competitive advantage over similar products produced from petroleum and other nonrenewable sources. Read more

Gonzaga Bulldogs Hand Lady Griz Third Straight Loss

Kayla Standish had 12 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks to lead Gonzaga to a 70-54 victory over Montana on Dec. 11 at the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, Wash. The loss was the third straight for the Lady Griz, who dropped to 4-6, and the fifth straight time they've lost to the Zags. Read more

Griz Fall 70-64 to Tough Nevada Team 

Nevada Guard Deonte Burton scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Wolf Pack to a 70-64 victory over the Montana Grizzlies on Dec. 10 at Dahlberg Arena. Read more


The Griz (5-5) are on the road this weekend, playing the University of Portland Pilots (3-7) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, with tip-off in UP's Chiles Center. Read more
