Residence Life Lands Roving Griz Award

Roving Griz Award Photo from left: Counseling and Psychological Services Director Kenneth Welt, Residence Life Director Ron Brunell, and President George Dennison

UM's Roving Griz Award recognizes campus departments that have excelled, going above and beyond the call of duty. On May 6 the award went to the Residence Life Office. The award was presented by Counseling and Psychological Services, the last Roving Griz recipient. Each department holds on to the award for several months before voting on the next hard-working unit to receive the wooden grizzly statue.

The award changed hands during a ceremony in the Turner Hall Dell Brown Room, which was packed because Residence Life shared the honor with members of Facilities Services, who work hard to maintain UM's residence halls and housing units.

A letter from Counseling and Psychological Services accompanying the award noted, "This award recognizes departments for their efforts and commitment to UM's Quality of Worklife Initiative, an area in which your department plainly excels. Over the years, Residence Life has created a respectful, supportive atmosphere for employees, one in which colleagues support one another in a family-like atmosphere in which doors are always open, all the way to the top."

Help Create UM's 2008 Homecoming Float
 Make the dream a reality!

Attention staff, faculty and administrators: UM needs your help. A call is out for a collaborative, campuswide effort to create a grand float that is a 2008 Homecoming parade showpiece. We need ideas and help with this show-stopping float. The parade is Saturday, Sept. 20.

The Homecoming theme this year is "Back to the Future -- There's No Future without U!" A $100 gift card from The Bookstore at UM will be given to the person who comes up with the winning float idea and sketch.

President Dennison has agreed that staff, faculty and administrators can volunteer up to two hours of work time to help with the float during the week before Homecoming -- if their work duties are covered and their supervisors approve.

Watch your mailboxes for more information to follow about how to submit float ideas and sketches and volunteer!

The book brings togehter photographs from the museum and architectural drawings from the library's archives, as well as other materials from public and private collections, for a rich portrayal of Gibson's life and his impact on Montana towns.

"The Original Man" is available for purchase at the Montana Museum of Art & Culture's Meloy and Paxson galleries, located in the PAR/TV Center, by calling 243-2019 or by e-mail at museum@umontana.edu.
