Missoula-area Oula dancers form a flash mob in the tailgate area before the UM-Cal Poly football game on Oct. 19. Thousands of Griz fans joined Team Up Montana, donning pink jerseys and accessories during the game to raise awareness of cancer.  

Environmental Scientist, Philosopher to Lecture

The UM President’s Lecture Series will present a seminar and lecture by environmental scientist and Guggenheim Fellow Rafe Sagarin on Monday, Oct. 28.

Sagarin’s seminar, “Observation and Trust: Rethinking Environmental Science and Law for a Complex World,” will be held from 3:10 to 4:30 p.m. in Gallagher Business Building Room 123. His evening lecture, “Learning from the Octopus: How Observations of Nature are Transforming Science and Society,” will be held at 8 p.m. in the George and Jane Dennison Theatre. Both events are free and open to the public. Read more

Mansfield Library Launches ScholarWorks Publication Platform

The Mansfield Library at UM celebrated Open Access Week with the recent launch of UM ScholarWorks, a new service for preserving, showcasing and making freely available the intellectual and creative scholarship of UM’s faculty, students and staff. Read more

UM Acquires High-End Chaucer Manuscript Reproduction

UM students and faculty conducting research on Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales” have an exceptional new resource available through the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library. The library recently acquired a detailed facsimile of the Ellesmere Manuscript, a beautiful, illuminated edition produced in the early 15th century. Read more

UM Business Bureau Wins Website Award

UM's Bureau of Business and Economic Research recently won the national 2013 Website Award of Excellence for BBER’s redesigned website. The Association for University Business and Economic Research presented the award at its recent conference in Richmond, Va. 

“We’re proud to see our website recognized as outstanding among our peers nationally,” said BBER Director Patrick Barkey. “Providing online access to BBER’s wealth of economic research is key to the role we play helping businesses in particular – and the Montana economy as a whole – succeed.”

University Pledges to Purchase Local and Sustainable Foods

In honor of Food Day, a nationwide celebration and movement for healthy, affordable and sustainable food on Oct. 24, UM President Royce Engstrom signed the Real Food Campus Commitment on behalf of the University. By signing the RFCC, colleges and universities pledge to buy at least 20 percent “real food” annually by 2020.  Read more
