Join the festivities at UM's 2011 Homecoming, which takes place Sunday through Saturday, Sept. 25-Oct. 1, with a full schedule of traditional events.
This year's Homecoming theme, "We Are Family," celebrates how the University's diverse family of alumni, faculty, students and staff unite the Missoula and Montana communities. In addition to traditional Homecoming events, the Class of 1971 will celebrate its 40th reunion this year. Read more

Pulitzer Prize Winner Opens President's Lecture Series with 'Cultures of War'
John Dower, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author considered one of the foremost experts on modern Japan and Japanese-U.S. relations, will give the first installment of the 2011-12 President's Lecture Series on Friday, Sept. 23, at UM. Dower will present "Cultures of War: Pearl Harbor/Hiroshima/9-11/Iraq" at 8 p.m. in the University Theatre. Read more

USDA Awards Highest Honor to UM Wildlife Biology Professor
UM wildlife biology Professor Dave Naugle recently received a 2011 Secretary's Honor Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for his work on the agency's major sage grouse conservation initiative. Read more

Magazine Names UM a Friendly Place for Veterans, Military Members to Earn Education
G.I. Jobs, a magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has designated UM as a "Military Friendly School." The 2012 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members and veterans as students. UM Students, Recent Grads Receive Fulbright Scholarships
Six UM students and recent grads will travel to the likes of Argentina, Bahrain, Nepal and countries in between as recipients of Fulbright U.S. Student scholarships for the 2011-12 academic year. Read more

Annual Heart Walk Adds 5K Run
The annual Missoula Heart Walk benefitting the American Heart Association just picked up the pace. For the first time since its inception in Missoula 16 years ago, the Heart Walk will feature both a three-mile walk and a 5K run Saturday, Sept. 24, at UM. Read more

COT to Host Inagural Homecoming Tailgate
The UM College of Technology will host its first-ever Grizzly football tailgate in conjunction with UM's Homecoming game starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, near Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Read more

Lecture Reports American Indian
Health Care Acheivements
Dr. Kelly J. Acton will visit UM to present a lecture on the achievements of the Indian Health Service's comprehensive disease management and prevention programs and innovative use of health information technology. Read more

UM will host events Friday, Sept. 23, to celebrate American Indian Heritage Day. The day will begin with a 7 a.m. Sunrise Ceremony by Arleen Adams in the Story Telling Area outside The Payne Family Native American Center. Read more

UM Professor Earns Grant to Place Sensors Beneath Arctic Ice
UM chemistry Professor Mike DeGrandpre and his partners have been awarded a $926,000 National Science Foundation grant, which will fund placement of carbon dioxide and pH sensors in the perennially ice-covered portion of the Arctic Ocean. Read more

UM Students Publish Website Exploring Issues Surrounding Proposed Sale of Water Utility
The UM law and journalism schools have rolled out a website focused on providing information and analysis of the proposed sale of Missoula's Mountain Water Company to a multinational commodities broker. The new site is titled "Global Control of Local Water: The Carlyle Group in Missoula, Montana" and can be found online at http://etalnews.org/missoulawater. Read more

Griz Topple Eastern Washington
A record crowd was on hand as the Grizzlies opened their 2011 Big Sky Conference season Sept. 17 with a hard-fought 17-14 victory over defending FCS national champion Eastern Washington in UM's Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
UM linebacker John Kanongata'a was named Big Sky Conference defensive Player of the Week.
