Payne Family Native American Center Awarded LEED Platinum Status
|

| The Payne Family Native American Center at UM has received LEED Platinum status, the highest level of certification awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council for achieving sustainable building standards.
The center is the first building on campus to achieve LEED Platinum certification.

Governor Announces $20 Million Grant for Montana University System
Gov. Brian Schweitzer announced recently that the Montana University System has received a $20 million, five-year grant from the National Science Foundation to strengthen the state's science and engineering workforce with a program that will reach into campuses and communities across the state. University Offers New Graduate Program in Systems Ecology
UM has launched a new master's and doctoral degree program in systems ecology. The state Board of Regents unanimously approved the new degree offerings during its September meeting. Systems ecology studies ecological science on large-landscape and regional scales. Read more

UM Lands $1.1 Million to Study Biomass as Fossil-Fuel Replacement
Three College of Forestry and Conservation professors at UM were awarded a $1.1 million U.S. Department of Agriculture grant as part of a research team investigating how to turn forest biomass into an alternative energy feedstock. Read more

Bulls, Blues and Brews Benefit Oct. 15
UM's Environmental Law Group will host the seventh annual Bulls, Blues and Brews benefit and silent auction at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Missoula Children's Theatre. Read more

Speaker Lecture on Jocko River Restoration
Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes' Natural Resources Specialist Germaine White will speak on "Bull Trout's Gift: Bull Trout, Tribal People and the Jocko River" at noon on Thursday, Oct. 13, in Law Building Room 101. Read more

UM Wins Major Federal Grant to Treat Child Abuse in Indian Country
The federal Administration for Children and Families recently announced that the National Native Children's Trauma Center at UM and its partners have won a $3.2 million grant to apply cutting-edge research to the problems of child abuse and neglect in Indian Country. The award is one of five such grants in the nation. Read more

Office for Civic Engagement Hosts International Speakers Forum on Sustainability
The UM Office for Civic Engagement is teaming up with Pull Together Now! and Seedlings of Change to host four guest speakers who will share their experiences in creating a sustainable world during the International Speakers Forum from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in University Center Rooms 326-327. The event is free and open to the public. Read more

Griz Dominate UNC Bears in Homecoming Victory
The UM Grizzlies turned on the afterburners in the third quarter and went on to register a 55-28 Big Sky Conference and Homecoming victory Oct. 1 over the visiting University of Northern Colorado Bears. Read more

Griz Senior Wins 8K at Montana Invitational
Montana senior Lynn Reynolds won the men's eight-kilometer race and Montana State senior Heather Haug won the women's five-kilometer race Sept. 30 at the Montana Invitational. Read more |

The UM soccer team continues its Big Sky Conference schedule this week with home matches at South Campus Stadium against Sacramento State and Portland State. Read more

Men's Doubles Takes Title in Bozeman
Junior Michael Facey and sophomore Ethan Vaughn won the doubles title and led the UM men's team to success Oct. 1-2 at the Bobcat Open in Bozeman. Read more

Women's Tennis Wins Multiple Brackets
The UM women's tennis team rampaged through the Eastern Washington Fall Classic held Oct. 1-2 in Cheney, Wash. The Griz won flights A, B and C in singles competition. Read more
