Griz Football Players Ask Fans to Donate Toys at Nov. 5 Home Game

Players on the Montana Grizzlies football team are leading an effort to give back to the community with the seventh annual Griz for Kids Toy Drive on Saturday, Nov. 5, at UM. Fans can drop off new, unwrapped toys or cash donations at all entrances to Washington-Grizzly Stadium before the Griz game against Western Oregon University. All gifts are tax-deductible. Read more

Fallen Soldier Memorial Dedication Moves Indoors
A snowy forecast for Friday has forced the dedication ceremony for the Fallen Soldier Memorial at UM indoors. The ceremony, previously slated to take place at Memorial Row, will now start at 5 p.m. in the Montana Theatre of the Performing Arts and Radio/Television Center. An unveiling at the memorial site will follow outside on Memorial Row and also will be streamed live in the Montana Theatre. The event will wrap up with a reception in the Phyllis J. Washington Education Center. Read more

UM Works to Refine its Brand Image
The marketing of higher education was at the forefront of discussion at UM this week. On Tuesday, Nov. 1, the University Council heard a presentation about the development of a brand strategy at UM. Read more

MTPR Connects Students with Soldiers
This fall, Montana Public Radio trained students at Willard Alternative High School to record and produce oral histories for the Veterans History Project. Read more

Writing Competition Open to UM Students
The Creative Writing Program at UM is now accepting submissions for the 2011 Merriam-Frontier Award. The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at UM during autumn semester 2011. Read more

EU Official to Explore European Debt Crisis
The World Affairs Council of Montana, in partnership with the Montana World Trade Center, will host a community Distinguished Speakers Program to explore Europe's financial crisis and why it matters to Montanans. Read more

Jonathan Spyer, a journalist, author, researcher and lecturer specializing in Israeli strategy, Lebanon and Syria, will give two lectures Friday, Nov. 4, at UM. Read more

Griz Roll to 45-10 Win Over Wildcats

UM sophomore quarterback Jordan Johnson tied a school record with six touchdown passes and senior wide receiver Jabin Sambrano tied a school mark with four scoring grabs as the Grizzlies rolled to a key 45-10 Big Sky Conference victory over the Weber State Wildcats in UM's Washington-Grizzly Stadium. The 10th-ranked Grizzlies will host the Western Oregon Wolves on Saturday, Nov. 5, in a nonleague contest that is UM's final regular-season home game. Read more

Reynolds Fourth in Big Sky Conference
Senior Lynn Reynolds was fourth overall and the UM men's cross country team took fourth Oct. 29 at the Big Sky Conference championships in Pocatello, Idaho. Read more

Portland State Takes Down UM Volleyball
Portland State won its fifth straight match and took over sole possession of first place in the Big Sky Conference with a 3-1 victory over Montana on Oct. 29, in Portland, Ore. Read more

The fourth-seeded Montana soccer team will face top-seeded Northern Colorado in a semifinal match Friday, Nov. 4, in the 2011 Big Sky Conference tournament in Greeley, Colo. Read more
