UM Launches Searchable Directory of Social Media Channels

There's a new tool at UM that connects users with University-related social media channels. It's online at http://www.umt.edu/communityhub/.
Community Hub is a searchable directory of UM-related social media channels developed by the IT Web team that can be used to find UM content on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube. Read more

UM Releases Status Report on Sexual Assault Allegations
UM issued an initial report earlier this month on an investigation into allegations of sexual assault involving students. The report is preliminary, and the University continues to aggressively pursue the investigation. Read more

Montana Joins Collaborative on Science Education for Girls
UM will team up with Montana State University to promote science, math, technology and engineering education for girls as part of the state's recent acceptance into the National Girls Collaborative Project. Read more

Mansfield Center Director Top Grant Recipient
The UM Office of Research and Sponsored Programs has announced that Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center Director Terry Weidner is the University's top external funding award recipient for 2011. Read more

UM Physician Serves at Youth Olympics
Dr. Carla Fritz, a physician at UM's Curry Health Center, is serving as medical staff at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics taking place Jan.13-22 in Innsbruck, Austria. Read more

Economic Outlook Seminar Headed to Nine Montana Cities
Tom Richmond, administrator and petroleum engineer for the Montana Board of Oil and Gas, will discuss developments in Montana's energy sector and the state's prospects for future growth at the 37th Annual Economic Outlook Seminar, "Montana's New Energy Frontier: What are the Prospects?" The half-day seminar and luncheon will highlight economic trends for local, state and national economies. Read more

UM Scientists Find Dramatic Links Between Climate Change, Wildlife
Climate change in the form of reduced snowfall in mountains is causing powerful and cascading shifts in mountainous plant and bird communities through the increased ability of elk to stay at high elevations over winter and consume plants, according to a groundbreaking study by UM scientists. The study, "Climate impacts on bird and plant communities from altered animal-plant interactions," was published online Jan. 8 in the journal Nature Climate Change. Read more

UM Composer Awarded
Prize for Excellence
UM music Associate Professor Charles Nichols has earned the prestigious title of finalist in the 2011 International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition and will be honored by the National Academy of Music with a diploma in music composition. Read more

Montana Rep Launches National Tour of 'Doubt'
The Montana Repertory Theatre will present "Doubt" for Missoula audiences Jan. 24-28 and Jan. 31-Feb. 4 before taking the show on a national tour. Read more

New Shanghai Circus Brings Show to University Theatre
Contortionists, acrobats and comedians will perform the New Shanghai Circus at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, in the University Theatre at UM. Read more

Radio-Television Student Takes Third in Hearst Contest
A UM radio-television student has earned third place in the radio news and features category of the national Hearst Journalism Awards. The third-place finish earned Clark Hodges, a senior from Billings, a berth at the June Hearst Awards national finals. Read more

to Adams Center Feb. 21

Big Sky Conference Announces Five-Year TV Contract
The Big Sky Conference has entered into a five-year agreement making DirecTV Sports Networks and its ROOT Sports branded regional sports networks the league's official TV partner and the home of Big Sky football and basketball. DirecTV Sports Networks will produce and televise up to 18 Big Sky football games each season, including the 112th annual Montana-Montana State rivalry game in 2012. Read more

UM Athletes Wrap up Meet in Bozeman; Hall Wins Pentathlon
UM's Austin Emry, who was competing unattached, finished third and freshman Terrell Boyes placed fifth as the heptathlon concluded Jan. 10 at the Montana State Combined Events Invitational in Bozeman. Read more
Montana junior Lindsey Hall had the top mark in four of five events to win the pentathlon Jan. 9 at the invitational. Hall won MSU's meet for the third straight year and picked up her sixth career pentathlon victory. Read more

Lady Griz Take the Show on the Road
The Montana women's basketball team will face its first two-game Big Sky Conference road trip of the season this week. The Lady Griz played the Northern Colorado Bears on Jan. 19 in Greeley, Colo., and battle the Sacramento State Hornets at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. Read more
