Welcome to TGIF News. This newsletter is provided weekly, except during the summer and scheduled academic breaks, to subscribers who include students, alumni, employees and friends of UM.

University Launches Branding Research with Consultant Visit

Get ready, UM. MOM is coming to visit.    

 

MOM stands for Mind Over Media, the Pittsburgh-based consulting firm the University hired to assist with strengthening and enhancing UM's marketing and communication efforts through development of a brand strategy. MOM was selected for the job last fall after a national search conducted by UM's 20-member Brand Strategy Task Force.    

 

The company will host what it's calling a "Campus Invasion" on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, to begin the process of determining UM's strengths and distinctive characteristics. Meetings and working sessions will invite input from students, UM employees and the public. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Read more

UM Ranks No. 14 on Peace Corps List

For the second year in a row, UM ranks No. 14 for producing Peace Corps volunteers among colleges and universities in the medium category, which includes schools with 5,001 to 15,000 undergraduates. Read more

Mansfield Center Hosts Lecture Series

The Spring 2012 Brown Bag Lecture Series hosted by the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center at UM will begin Tuesday, Feb. 7, with a presentation by Paul Thompson of Michigan State University. Read more

Cheer Squad Hosts Competition Jan. 29

The UM Cheer Squad will host the Griz Garden City Glam Jam cheerleading competition on Sunday, Jan. 29, at UM's Dahlberg Arena. Read more

Students Make UM Dean's List

At UM, 3,037 students made the autumn semester 2011 Dean's List. To qualify for the list, students must be undergraduates, earn a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher and receive grades of A or B in at least nine credits. Read more

Lady Griz Host Rematch Against with Eastern Washington

The Montana women's basketball team hosted Eastern Washington on Jan. 26 as the Big Sky Conference schedule neared its midway point. Read more

 

On Jan. 21, the Lady Griz scored 54 first-half points, shot 46.6 percent overall and put up more points than they had in their previous 48 games to come away with an 88-79 victory over the Sacramento State Hornets in California. Read more

Join the Lady Griz for Northwest Burn Foundation Awareness Game 

Join Alyssa Smith and her Lady Griz teammates as they host the Portland State Vikings and play for the Northwest Burn Foundation at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28. Smith as long been active with the foundation, attending a summer camp for burn survivors for the past 14 years. She is now a camp counselor. Firefighters and local celebrity volunteers will be on hand to collect donations for the foundation during the game. Learn more

Griz on the Road for Pair of Key Big Sky Games

The UM Grizzlies are on the road this week, playing the Eastern Washington Eagles on Thursday, Jan. 26, and the Portland State Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 29. Read more

 

The Grizzlies scored a season-high 85 points and defeated the visiting Sacramento State Hornets 85-56 in a Big Sky Conference contest Jan. 21 in UM's Dahlberg Arena.

 

The men, who improve to 6-1 in league and 13-6 overall, have won eight of their last nine games. Read more
