Griz Beat Weber, Clinch BSC Title
The UM Grizzlies won their first Big Sky Conference regular-season championship in 12 seasons with an emotional 66-51 victory over the Weber State Wildcats on Feb. 28 in front of a season-high 7,157 fans in UM's Dahlberg Arena. Read more
On Feb. 29, junior guard Will Cherry was named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, along with Eastern Washington University's Cliff Colimon. Read more

Pulitzer Winner, Communications Executive to Speak at UM
Anne Marie Squeo, vice president for communications for Lockheed Martin Electronic Systems, will give a lecture titled "The Split Personality of Branded Journalism" at 7 p.m. Monday, March 12, in the University Center Theater at UM. The event, which is free and open to the public, is the fourth installment of the School of Journalism's annual Jeff Cole Distinguished Lecture Series. Read more

'Odyssey of the Stars' Honors Independent Filmmaker, UM Alum
The UM College of Visual and Performing Arts will pay tribute to Palmer West, a 1998 UM graduate and independent filmmaker, during its 12th annual "Odyssey of the Stars - A Celebration of Artistic Journeys." This year's show, "In the Moment," will start at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, in the University Theatre. It will feature UM students, faculty and West as guest artist and alumni honoree. Read more

UM President Previews Regents Meeting
The Montana University System Board of Regents is meeting March1-2 at The University of Montana Western in Dillon. In his weekly video address, UM President Royce Engstrom highlights important items on the agenda and tells viewers where they can watch the meeting live via streaming video.

UM Wins Marketing Awards
UM captured nine awards during recent marketing competitions. UM won five awards in the 2012 Communication Awards program of the regional Council for Advancement and Support of Education and four awards in the national 27th Annual Educational Advertising Awards contest. Read more

UC Hosts Diversity Film Series
The University Center at UM debuted the Diversity Film Series on March 1. Additional films will be shown Thursday, March 8, and Thursday, March 15. Films begin at 6 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Read more

Native Health Lecture Series Begins March 13
The first installments of the Native American & Minority Health & Cultural Competency Lecture Series are slated for Tuesday, March 13, at UM. Read more

Apply for Wilderness and Civilization Program
The UM Wilderness and Civilization Program currently is accepting applications for autumn semester 2012. The program, the only one of its kind in the country, takes students outside the classroom to learn hands-on in small, interdisciplinary classes and from extensive fieldwork. Read more

Off-Campus Renter Center Hosts Fair
The Associated Students of UM Off-Campus Renter Center will host the 2012 Housing and Community Resources Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in the University Center Atrium. Read more

Alpha Phi Chapter Wins Regional Awards
The Chi chapter of the Alpha Phi sorority at UM took home three awards during the organization's Pacific Northwest Regional Conference held Feb. 24-26 in Los Angeles. Read more

Study: Meeting Biofuels Targets Could Alter Agricultural Landscape
A new study by UM and its partners suggests nearly 80 percent of current U.S. farmland would need to be devoted to growing corn for ethanol to meet current biofuel production targets with existing technology.
The study, "Bioenergy Potential of the United States Constrained by Satellite Observations of Existing Productivity," was published recently in Environmental Science & Technology, a journal of the American Chemical Society. Read more

Melissa Mylchreest, a second-year Master of Fine Arts student in UM's Creative Writing Program, has won the 2012 Merriam-Frontier Award. Read more

Wraps Up Season
The Montana women finished fifth and the Griz men seventh at last weekend's Big Sky Conference indoor championships in Flagstaff, Ariz. The meet marked the end of the 2012 indoor season. Read more

Chinese Dance and Music Performance at UM March 4
A Chinese dance troupe from Nanchang University will visit UM on Sunday, March 4, to perform a recital of Chinese dance and music at 6:30 p.m. in the University Theatre. Read more

Lady Griz Conclude Regular Season with Road Games
The Montana women's basketball team will conclude its regular-season schedule this week with road games at Portland State and Northern Arizona. Read more

SpectrUM, Food Bank Events Mark Kids Nourish Month
UM's spectrUM Discovery Area will pair up with the Missoula Food Bank to help young people tackle the stresses and cycle of hunger during Kids Nourish Month. Read more

Women's Tennis On the Road to Face Boise State Broncos
The UM women's tennis team travels to Boise, Idaho, to face off against Boise State on Sunday, March 4. The dual will be the only contest of the weekend for the Grizzlies. Read more
