Loss to Lumberjacks Snuffs Grizzlies' Tournament Hopes
The Montana volleyball team got the result it needed from Bozeman on Nov. 9. The problem was the Grizzlies didn't get the one they needed in Missoula, and that loss was the sockdolager to their Big Sky Conference tournament hopes.
Montana lost in straight sets to Northern Arizona for the second time this season, falling 25-13, 25-14, 25-18 to the Lumberjacks at UM's West Auxiliary Gym. At the same time, Montana State was losing to Southern Utah, just the outcome Montana needed -- if the Grizzlies had won -- to stay alive in the chase for the tournament. Read more

Lady Griz Log First Win of Season with Victory over MSU Northern
The Montana women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season with a 75-45 victory over MSU Northern on Nov. 13 at Dahlberg Arena. The Lady Griz, who lost at Temple on Nov. 9, evened their early-season record at 1-1.
Montana's size -- the Lady Griz had a 39-25 rebounding advantage -- and depth -- UM's bench outscored MSUN's 33-18 -- proved too much for the Skylights, but that didn't mean Montana coach Robin Selvig didn't come away impressed with his opponent in a game that felt more competitive than the final score indicates.
"There were a lot of things we can learn from this game, and I give Northern credit for that," Selvig said. "They were overmatched because they don't have that much size, but they are well-coached."
Montana plays at Idaho (0-2) at 3 p.m. (MST) Sunday, Nov. 18. Read more
