Residence halls open over spring break

UM residence halls will remain open for students during the April 2-6 spring break. Students planning to stay in their rooms do not need to sign up; however, dining services will be limited or unavailable during this time.

Buildings will be locked 24 hours a day, so residents need to carry their Griz Cards at all times to access them. Residence hall staff will be available in all buildings if students need assistance.

More information is on the Residence Life website.

Renter Center hosts housing fair today

The Associated Students of UM Off-Campus Renter Center will host the 2012 Housing and Community Resources Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in the University Center Atrium.

ASUM agencies, government offices, property management companies and others will be available to talk with future and current renters. The Renter Center hosts the fair to educate more than 10,000 student renters of community resources, rental rights and housing options.

The center also helps students find off-campus housing, educates them on their rights, mitigates landlord disputes and manages the online Off-Campus Housing Finder.

Students can find more information and schedule an appointment to speak to a renter's advocate on the Renter Center website.

Immersion program seeks applicants

The Student Affairs Immersion Learning program, or SAIL, gives successful applicants the opportunity to spend autumn semester in four-week rotations in each of three selected Student Affairs departments to gain knowledge of specific programs, services and operations.

During spring semester SAIL interns will spend 16 weeks in one selected department. Interns are awarded in-state tuition waivers and are paid $10 per hour for working 15-20 hours a week.

E-magazine focuses on sexual assault

UM's Curry Health Center publishes an online magazine for students each month titled Student Health 101, or SH101. The March issue focuses on sexual assault and is now available online.

This issue of SH101 addresses the importance of bystander intervention, how to intervene, services offered at UM's Student Assault Resource Center and advice from SARC advocates.

The magazine also features interviews with UM students and videos produced by the Health Enhancement department of the Curry Health Center and Stephen Seder, a UM student and campus correspondent.

SH101 is sent to all UM student email accounts at the beginning of each month. The magazine is an interactive experience where students can learn wellness and health tips.

According to the Higher Education Research Institute Faculty Survey, 68 percent of UM's faculty spend at least one hour each week engaging in community or public service, compared with 50 percent of faculty at other public institutions in the country.

Additionally, 52.3 percent of UM faculty responded that instilling a commitment to community service in their students is "essential/very important," compared with 39.4 percent at peer institutions.
