The University of Montana's tradition of attracting great minds and world class talent continues in the spirit of the 1997 renovation of the University Theatre. A new addition--complete with expanded restrooms, improved stage access, a spectacular rotunda and extensive renovations--was completed with state and University support.
With bond payments and operational, managerial, production and promotional expenses, the University Theatre confronts annual expenditures of over $400,000. Through rental fees, ticket sales and production revenues, we can earn a significant percentage of annual expenses, but it is difficult to balance the budget while assuring that we provide audiences a full schedule featuring the quality talent they have grown to expect to see in the University Theatre.
The University Theatre is serving as a cultural center for our campus and community, hosting renowned speakers, quality music and world class dance shows. You can help continue this tradition by participating in our Buy-A-Seat program, which will put your name in the University Theatre's history.
Through a $1 million Cultural Endowment, the University will continue to build on the artistic tradition that traces its origin to 1904 when the drama group, the Quill and Dagger Society, formed and to 1913 when the School of Music was established. The endowment will allow the University to create a comprehensive cultural center to expose students campus-wide and the theatre-going public of the region to the life enhancements that only the arts can provide and give fine arts students experience working with performers, designers, and technicians in a wide variety of productions.
