Vice President for Integrated Communications

Peggy KuhrPeggy serves as the chief communications officer responsible for conveying the University’s mission, vision and values to internal and external audiences. She provides strategic leadership, counsel and assistance to top administrators in the areas of communications, marketing, public broadcasting, media relations, crisis management and outreach. She oversees University media relations, marketing, web content, licensing and internal campus communications. Departments reporting to Integrated Communications include University Relations, the Broadcast Media Center, and Printing and Graphic Services.

Peggy started in her role as VPIC in January 2013, after serving as interim vice president during the fall 2012 semester. Previously, she was dean of the UM School of Journalism – a position she held since 2007, when she returned to her home state and her alma mater.

She had a 25-year career in newspapers before joining The University of Kansas in 2002 as Knight Chair on the Press, Leadership and Community. She spent 16 years at The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, WA, in a number of top newsroom positions. The newspaper was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1993 in Spot News reporting for coverage of the Randy Weaver standoff on Ruby Ridge in North Idaho. Peggy directed reporting coverage of the 13-day siege. She also worked for The Hartford (Conn.) Courant and the Great Falls (Mont.) Tribune, her hometown newspaper.

She graduated from UM with a degree in journalism and French in the mid-1970s and received a Rotary International Fellowship to attend the Université de Rouen in France. She also attended the University of Michigan on a one-year journalism fellowship, now called the Knight-Wallace Fellows program. Her Master's degree, from Gonzaga University, is in Organizational Leadership.

Her husband, Tom Foor, is a professor emeritus of UM, in the field of anthropology and archaeology.
