Current Projects Description
Restoration Planning: This database will help in locating potential cost shares and partnerships; in achieving a critical mass of effort in a watershed; in coordinating between projects; and in achieving greater geographical dispersion of available funds. This database was under construction when this description was compiled in early 2002. Data Description: The Montana University System Water
Center is developing an online database of watershed projects, that is, projects
undertaken to conserve, restore or protect watersheds & associated [back to Current Projects page]
Restoration Planning: This website contains a wealth of information on remediation and restoration of mining-impacted sites. There are case histories of the ongoing work at Anaconda and Silver Bow Creek, as well as general information, references and web links on many aspects of remediation and restoration. This is an excellent site for learning about current practices and available technology. Data Description: "This site addresses the approaches used to reclaim, restore and mitigate the ecological impacts resulting from mining disturbances. Here you will soon find links to research reports, case histories, educational materials, technology developments, virtual tours and links to sites that provide relevant information." The site is a joint project of the Research Reclamation Center and the Water Center at Montana State University along with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Montana Department of Environmental Quality and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Major sections of the web site are described below.

Restoration Planning: Useful for determining local citizens groups for possible collaboration on restoration projects, or to gain information on what these groups may already be doing in the basin. The list depends on volunteer contribution thus may not reflect all groups in a particular area. Data Description: The Montana Water Center maintains a listing of local, watershed-based citizen's groups in the state. The list is maintained through an on-line interactive database where people may add or edit their own group's information. Currently (March 2002) 38 groups are listed. The list of groups can be browsed directly or searched by keywords. Information on each group varies but may include:

Restoration Planning: The Blackfoot River watershed & fishery restoration projects web site is part of a larger web site maintained by the US Fish & Widlife Service, describing habitat restoration projects around the country. We recommend the Blackfoot part of this web site as a model for an NRDP projects web site. Data Description: For each focus area (like the Blackfoot), the web site describes:
When you click on the Projects section, you see a map of the Blackfoot watershed with the projects numbered (clickable) on the map. There is also a clickable list of the projects named by creek. Clicking on a project takes you to a description of that project, including text, a map of the basin showing the project creek, and pictures of the area. Some project descriptions include the results of pre- & post-project studies. Website: http://www.r6.fws.gov/pfw/montana/mt5c.htm [back to Current Projects page]
