Registration Instructions

If you want to add the WPA to your class schedule, keep checking Cyberbear for availability as seats open in stages. You may register for one section only, and only if you plan to attend. Multiple registrations by one student inconvenience other students and may lead to disciplinary action if a student attends more than one exam section per day.

There are no on-site registrations or waiting lists for the WPA. Please register in a timely fashion. Drop your registration if you decide not to attend so that other students can sign-up for the exam.

When Cyberbear Registration is Closed:

After the 15th day of instruction each semester, Cyberbear is closed for registration purposes. To register for the exam or to drop the WPA after registration closes, go IN PERSON to the Registration Counter in GrizCentral and request that you be added to the exam roster. Seating is limited and ALL registration closes at least three days prior to an exam date. There is no fee for dropping or adding the WPA after the drop/add deadline.

When Cyberbear Registration is Open:

All students taking the WPA must register for it on Cyberbear. Please do not register for the exam unless you know you will attend. The WPA appears at the top of the list of courses available when you select Class Search from the Cyberbear menu. From the main listing for the exam, you will need to view the co-linked sections of the WPA in order to register for a specific section. Then do the following:

1. Study the available dates. Pick ONE for that semester. You will have a chance to register for other exams later in the semester.

2. Look at the sections of the WPA available on the date you picked. If you want to take the test on a computer, choose a section that is given in the Gallagher Business Building (GBB) or Liberal Arts 240-242 (LA). If you want to write the test by hand, choose the section that is located in the North Underground Lecture Hall (NULH).*

If a section you want is closed, try again later. Please do not contact the WPA program or The Writing Center to request a spot. Class size is limited in all sections, but will book fastest in GBB/LA. Many students will drop the WPA as the exam date approaches, creating space in the sections. If you want to take the exam on a computer, keep checking Cyberbear to see if the GBB/LA sections are full, particularly during the week before the exam. All registration closes for an exam at least 3 days before the day of the exam. There is no on-site registration.

3. Submit your selection. You can change your registration anytime on Cyberbear until the end of the third week of a semester. After that, go to the Registration Counter in Griz Central to drop or change your registration. All registration for the exam closes three days before the test. No drop/add fee applies to WPA registration.

4. Make a note on your personal calendar of the date, time, and location of the exam section you choose. Arrange for time off work, childcare, or other personal matters so that you can attend the exam.

5. If prior to three days before the day of the exam you decide not to attend the exam, DROP the exam from your course list on Cyberbear. If you decide not to attend the exam after registration for that exam closes, you cannot cancel your registration. Please plan ahead and show up for the test you registered for. Do not contact the WPA program to cancel your registration.

6. If you are a student who is required to pass the WPA but you do not have an active Cyberbear account, contact the director at growl@mso.umt.edu at least 2 weeks prior to the exam date you have selected.

*Students who are taking the exam at DSS or from a remote location are asked to register for the NULH section even if they plan to use a computer for the test. This will allow us to use of all of the available computers in GBB/LA on test day. Thank you.
