Zach Brown - Environmental Studies
Recent UM graduate and Truman Scholar Zach Brown is interning in the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) as part of the Truman Foundation’s Summer Institute program in Washington, D.C. The USTR oversees bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations on behalf of the President. His office works to build environmental protections into Free Trade Agreements and represents the U.S. government in treaty negotiations regarding environmental and climate change issues. Zach is currently working on the United States’ Free Trade Agreement with Colombia, which was signed in 2012. He prepares for upcoming meetings with the Colombian government, and researches their environmental laws and the current state of deforestation and illegal wildlife trade issues in Colombia. After completing this internship, Zach plans to pursue work related to water policy and water conservation.
