Senate Responsibilties

Here is a short list of senator responsibilities and opportunities:

  • Gain leadership experience
  • Gain advocacy experience
  • Meet new friends who are also concerned about campus issues
  • Debate issues of importance
  • Work together as a team
  • Work with administrators, staff, and students
  • Serve on at least two boards or committees
  • Hold one office hour each week in the ASUM office
  • Staff a table in the UC one time each month
  • Attend a fall weekend retreat
  • Attend a weekly Senate meeting; meetings start at 6 p.m. and last two or more hours
  • Write resolutions
  • Stay current on campus, city, state and national news
  • Interviews with KBGA radio
  • Represent students' concerns
  • Attend Board of Regents meetings throughout the year
  • Participate in Final Budgeting
  • Allocate money to student groups and agencies
  • Learn/practice appropriate parliamentary procedure
