IT Short Courses: Handshake 101

Handshake (formerly Griz eRecruiting) is your new hub for posting internships, jobs, research and volunteer opportunities, career fairs, events and more.

In our Handshake 101 course you’ll learn how to:

  • set up your user profile and join or create a department at UM
  • post job and internship opportunities for students
  • view potential applicants (see a candidate you like? contact them directly through Handshake)
  • narrow down potential hires to the best fit using the advanced filter options
  • register for upcoming career fairs
  • general Q & A

Join Your UM Department on Handshake

All UM employers (offices and departments) will need have an employer account in Handshake.

  • First, find and join your “company” (University of Montana "Your Department Name"). 
    Please do not choose “University of Montana” as your employer.
  • If your 'company' already exists, request to join.  You will need to be approved by someone in your department's Handshake company account.

Create an Account

If your department is NOT listed, please click "create new company'. This will allow your office to manage your own profile and staff positions.

Naming: Please start with University of Montana and then your office/department name to ensure consistency throughout Handshake (e.g., University of Montana Career Services).

  • You will need to select Missoula MT as your address from the drop down menu.

  • Click Create New Employer when you are finished inputting your company information. You will be taken to the employer landing page where you will be able to create job postings.
