Research and Practice Interests - Community asthma education. Quality asthma care. Empowering people to self-manage their asthma. Health literacy in asthma management. Developing asthma pathways and guidelines to decrease ED and hospitalization for asthma. Former chairperson of the National Asthma Educators Certification Board. Currently serving as president-elect for the Association of Asthma Educators.

TAMMY ROOD DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC, AE-C

Tammy RoodTammy Rood DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC, AE-C is a pediatric nurse practitioner and certified asthma educator in the Pediatric Pulmonary & Allergy Division at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has been caring for children with asthma since 2008. Tammy is a team member of Asthma Ready® Communities, the Missouri Asthma Prevention and Control Program, and the asthma ECHOs (Extension for Community Health Outcomes). She is passionate about asthma education and has participated in multiple asthma improvement activities across settings of care. Particularly, Tammy has worked with school districts to provide training and deliver asthma self-management education using the Teaming Up for Asthma Control program.  In 2017, she joined the Sinclair School of Nursing in Columbia as an Adjunct Professor.  Tammy strongly believes that good asthma care has the potential to dramatically improve the quality of life for children with asthma and their families!
