Campus Safety and Security

Introduction

The University of Montana Police Department works in partnership with campus to provide professional and effective public safety services in an environment conductive to learning. Its three areas of focus are creating a safe and secure campus, preventing crime and enforcing parking. UM Police consists of fully sworn officers and a dispatch center available 24/7. Officers investigate all crimes and enforce federal, state and local laws, as well as University of Montana policies, and have the same authority and powers of arrest as any other state officer.

UMPD has resumed normal operations with the ability to transition to COVID-19 procedures if necessary. For more information about UMPD or campus emergency response, please visit the UMPD website.
