Plan Eligibility and Enrollment

                                                           ELIGIBILITY

Staying healthy is essential to your academic success. The Montana University System requires all students taking six (6) or more credits, and paying mandatory fee to have and maintain major medical insurance while they are attending school each Fall/Spring semester.

The AcademicBlue student health insurance plan, underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana, is offered as an option to satisfy the requirement.

  • Coverage is available for active registered students only. There is no coverage for spouses/dependents.
  • Because the student insurance plan is not an employee offered plan, COBRA is not an option for students no longer eligible for the coverage (graduation/no longer a student/etc.).
  • Students taking 1-5 credits, may be eligible to petition to enroll into the student health insurance plan. To be eligible to petition, students must have been enrolled in the student health insurance plan the previous semester, and must not have a previously approved petition. For a Petition application, students must send a request from an official University of Montana student email account to studentinsurance@mso.umt.edu. Please, include 790#.

                                                          ENROLLMENT

During the registration process, a directive box will appear instructing students to make an insurance declaration. At this time, students may opt to enroll into the student insurance plan. **Please, be sure to review plan information found by visiting the STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN section of this site prior to making this selection.**

IMPORTANT: Students MUST complete their school enrollment/finalize their registration in order to activate plan enrollment. They can contact the Student Accounts office at UMStudentaccts@mso.umt.edu with questions regarding this process.

                                              A NOTE FROM FINANCIAL AID

Students who are utilizing federal funding to pay for their education, and wish to include the student insurance plan in the disbursement, must sign a Title IV form authorizing this. Please, contact the Financial Aid office at 406-243-5373 or faid@mso.umt.edu with questions, or for further information.
