Test Modifications Services

Student eligibility

For the convenience of instructors, Disability Services offers test modification services to their students with disabilities, who are eligible for test modifications.

Disability Services recommends that instructors ask students for verification of the right to reasonable modifications before they agree to provide test modifications. Disability Services provides a verification letter to students for this purpose.

Online exams with test modifications

As in-class instruction will be delivered online or remotely due to COVID-19, exams should be administered online by instructors. Students notify their instructors and request testing modifications. For question, contact Dahn Ebert, Testing Coordinator, at dss.testing@mso.umt.edu

Frequently Asked Questions about Exam Scheduling

Testing facilities in Disability Services on the Mountain Campus

Hours of Operations: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
If exams are scheduled outside of our testing hours, students with disabilities contact the instructor to discuss alternative arrangements.

Security: Disability Services understands the academic rigors and safety measures that instructors undertake in administrating their exams. We take test security very seriously. We will report to the instructor when we observe a student using any unauthorized materials or resources during an exam. We also stop an exam at any time if academic dishonesty is witnessed.

Testing Rooms:
Private testing room with a computer and a video magnifier

  • 12 seats in the reduced distraction testing rooms
  • 5 computer testing seats
  • 3 private testing rooms

No cell phones, food or beverages in the testing facilities: We are committed to ensuring an appropriate testing environment for all students who use its testing facilities. Odors and sounds from food and beverages can be distracting to others. Thus, the testing facilities do not allow any food or beverages except water.

Instructor's Exam Instructions: Disability Services adheres strictly to the instructor's testing instructions. Changes to a test modification must be approved in writing by the instructor, even when the modification is as simple as a time change.

Student's Late Arrival: If a student is up to 15 minutes late for a scheduled exam, Disability Services will subtract the time missed from the total time allowed for the exam. If a student is more than 15 minutes late, Disability Services will determine that the student is a “No Show” and the test will be returned to the instructor. The student will need to work with the instructor to complete a new test modification form to reschedule the test.

Academic Dishonesty: Any student observed using any unauthorized materials or resource during an exam will be reported to the instructor. Disability Services has the right to stop an exam at any time if academic dishonesty is witnessed. Academic misconduct is subject to an academic penalty by the instructor and/or a disciplinary sanction by the University of Montana by the Student Conduct Code.
