Community Scholarships

The Phyllis J. Washington College of Education is proud to collaborate with national and community-based organizations in announcing the following scholarship opportunities for students enrolled in our programs. Scholarship criteria, selection processes and funding for the scholarships listed below are solely the responsibility of the sponsoring organization. Student applicants are instructed to direct all questions and application materials to the organizations or individuals designated in the descriptions below.

Teaching and Learning Community Scholarships

MFPE Scholarship

Anticipated Amount: $1,500

MFPE will award two 2022 - 2023 academic year scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each, one to a new student (one who has not previously enrolled in or attended any public Montana college or university); and one to a continuing student (one who is currently enrolled in and attending a public Montana college or university). The students must be MFPE members or dependents of MFPE members. Application must include a personal statement, letter of recommendation, summary of applicant's community involvement and financial need, and academic transcripts.

Jane Hammer Holmgren Scholarship

The Jane Hammer Holmgren Scholarship recognizes an outstanding Montana woman who is pursuing a degree, certification, graduate, or post-graduate work in the field of elementary education. It is given in memory of Jane Hammer Holmgren who was an elementary teacher.

Eligibility

A P.E.O. chapter may nominate an outstanding candidate that meets the following criteria:

  • Has completed at least two years of college
  • Is pursuing a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree or postgraduate work in elementary education and will be working with students rather than in administration
  • On-line programs in accredited schools will be considered
  • Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or a legal permanent resident
  • Must be a Montana resident

Charlotte Clemons Scholarship

Anticipated Amount: $1,000

Applicant must be a woman who is an elementary education major and attends the University of Montana. Applicant must have completed two years of college. Applicant must have financial need and use the funds for college expenses such as tuition, books, room and board. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 grade point average.
