The Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association — who has more than 4,000 members and growing from over 400+ higher education institutions in the US and other countries — has selected UM's Director of Environmental Health & Safety, Mark Hlebichuk as the 2026 Safety Professional of The Year.
Each year the organization honors the Environmental Safety & Health Professional that exemplifies the dedication to their university and positive impact they and their team made on campus that year. Mark is proud of what EHS was able to do for UM in under a year. Trent Drinkwalter, Occupational Safety and Health Officer, and Mark made big improvements to our Safety Programs, including Lab & Chemical Safety, Hazmat, Radiation and Indoor Air Quality. Their attentive, personalized approach supports employees, students and University requirement needs. They were tasked to take on extra time-consuming compliance needs for UM, and this award speaks to their up and coming program and efforts!
