The Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX supports UM’s commitment to diverse and inclusive working and learning environments free from all forms of discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct. We work to eliminate barriers inhibiting individuals from achieving their full potential in education, employment, and other programs at the University.

Anyone who experiences discriminatory conduct, including sexual misconduct, is urged to contact the EO/TIX so we can provide resources and assist with an appropriate response. UM's Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, Stalking and Retaliation Policy strictly prohibits retaliation against a person for reporting perceived discrimination.

To fulfill its mission the EO/TIX provides:

Responds to incidents of reported discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct or retaliation to identify resources and any series of steps that are responsive to the complaint and are calculated to stop and address the behavior. Steps can include a formal investigation or an informal process.

Policy investigations by trained, EO/TIX staff determine if it is more likely than not that student, faculty, or staff conduct has, or may, violate the University's Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, Stalking and Retaliation Policy. Such a formal investigation process results in a written report that could lead to student conduct or personnel actions.  

Provides resources and accommodations to stop and address the effects of prohibited discrimination.

The EO/Title IX delivers training on federal civil rights laws such as ADA or Title IX, University non-discrimination policies, equitable hiring processes and other topics. We also collaborate with other groups to develop UM's prevention education plan. 

Recommends, interprets and implements policies and procedures in support of non-discrimination.
