First Destination Graduate Survey

What is the purpose of the First Destination Survey?

Each year, University of Montana surveys students who have applied for, and are awarded a bachelor’s degree. The First Destination Survey takes 5-7 minutes to complete, and helps UM gather information about the future plans of our graduates. This data also helps us to more accurately inform current students, new alumni, prospective students and their families about possible career opportunities.

Information we seek from graduating students:

  • Employment status
  • Graduate/professional school enrollment
  • Volunteer or service programs
  • Starting salaries

Who should participate in the survey?

If you are graduating this semester (and have completed your graduation paperwork), the First Destination Survey will be available for you to complete in Handshake.

Graduating seniors will also receive an email, 4 weeks prior to commencement to complete the survey. You will also get an email with the link, 3, 6, and 9 months after graduation. We understand your plans may change and we encourage you to update this information at these times. We appreciate your time and willingness to complete this survey.

To access the survey: sign into Handshake

Then go to Profile > Career Center > First Destination

The First Destination Survey meets guidelines of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and allows for standardized reporting of bachelor’s degree recipients’ plans immediately after graduation. Find out more about the First Destination Survey here.
