Why a Degree in Design & Technology?

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design/Technology prepares students either to enter the professional world of theater as a technician or to pursue studies in a graduate program. Areas of concentration include scenic design and construction, costume design and construction, and lighting and sound design and execution.
The curriculum in design/technology develops expertise to perform tasks, efficiently, knowledgeably, and safely; to build and/or implement the scenery, costume, lighting, and sound designs. Students learn to serve in the role of carpenter, props technician, stitcher, cutter, make-up technician, electrician, and/or audio technician for theatre, dance, television, and music production. In addition, students learn to work with independence, efficiency, flexibility, and creative thinking; to use effective leadership, technical and communication skills.
