Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is essential not only in high school but during the collegiate experience. Our goal is to help students. You are prepared. You are ready. UM GEAR UP is here to guide Montana GEAR UP high school students and their families, academically, socially, and financially through their first year at the University of Montana. The transition from high school to college can be overwhelming and we want to make sure you feel confident with each milestone along the way.

Gear Up Services
We provide services for first year freshman through their first year in college in conjunction with the other first year service offices around campus:
- Registration/Class Schedule
- FAFSA/Financial aid
- Mentoring
- Academic success coaching
- Connecting to college resources
- Reminders of dates and deadlines
- Group event participation

- We offer a Peer Mentor Program that provides a welcoming and supportive environment to new students and an extended network of additional resources and information.
- Academic coaches who are ready and willing to answer question or help with academic progress.
- Monthly newsletter filled with tips and tricks, resources, to help you connect with campus and classmates.
- Collaborative events and activities to be informed by a variety of resources.
- Wealth of resources at your fingertips:
- Financial Education- Helps navigate the costs of college and FAFSA completion
- Study Jam- Tutoring Program
- TRIO- Free student support services for University of Montana students who apply and are eligible. Academic advising, career and major exploration, financial literacy, tutoring, mentoring and academic success coaching, scholarships, and textbook and technology loans.
- Curry Health Center- Offers medical, dental, counseling, and wellness services.
- Office of Disability Equity- If you need help with various types of accommodations and/or services.
- Experiential Learning and Career Success- They can help you prepare for your career. Check out ElevateU- a special program to develop career-ready skills over time at the University of Montana.
- Writing and Public Speaking Center- Help from the start with what to say, how to say it, and then presenting it.
- Undergraduate Advising- Not sure who your advisor is? No worries. They can help you design and track your academic progress.
