The Archives and Special Collections is celebrating Women's History Month by featuring two exhibits during the month of March! Located at the entrance of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library, this exhibit was created by GEO intern and ASC student assistant Erika Byrne.

Maureen Hayes Mansfield: The Women Beside the Diplomat

As the wife of United States congressman and Ambassador to Japan, Mike Mansfield, Maureen Ann Hayes Mansfield led a relatively private life. She rarely did interviews and the few pieces of her writing available are school papers and correspondence to constituents that reveal little about her personality. Most of what we know about Maureen comes from the words of her friends, family, and colleagues. She never sang her own praises, so others did it for her. Her biggest supporter was always Mike Mansfield, who fully credited her with his success both in life and work. This exhibit details her contributions to Montana and the United States.
