Graduate Non-degree Admission
Graduate non-degree admission is a graduate status allowing students to receive graduate credit for coursework without being formally admitted to a graduate degree program.
Graduate non-degree applications are processed through the Graduate School.

Graduate non-degree credits
Up to nine semester non-degree graduate credits (or the credits earned during a single semester, whichever is greater) may be applied toward a subsequent degree program, with the approval of the student's program chair and the Graduate Dean. Acceptance as a graduate non-degree student does not imply future admission to a degree program.
Graduate non-degree students may take courses for either graduate or undergraduate credit, as defined by the university catalog. Graduate credits will be assigned automatically unless a request for undergraduate credit is submitted to the Graduate School by the fifth week of the semester.
Applicants admitted as graduate non-degree students are NOT ELIGIBLE for financial aid. Graduate non-degree students are assessed the graduate level tuition and fees at the master's level rate for all credits taken.
A quick look at COST: The estimated tuition cost and fees for taking a 3-credit graduate course in the 2021/2022 academic year is $1,328(this amount includes fees) for a Resident, and $4188 for a Non-Resident (this amount includes fees). Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree (or higher degree) from a regionally accredited college or university prior to enrollment in the graduate non-degree status. You will need to provide official transcripts reflecting all undergraduate and/or post-baccalaureate study to the Grad School: email@example.com
Prior students of UM do not need to submit their UM transcripts.
How to Apply
- Apply Online (Application fee is a non-refundable $60 fee)
***Lawful Permanent Residents or International Applicants Only
- Complete Pre-Registration Immunization Requirement Form
All applicants are required to submit a completed Pre-Registration Immunization Requirement Medical History Record to the Curry Health Center two weeks prior to registration. It is especially important that the immunization record be complete and accurate and validated by a health official.
***If you will be taking DISTANCE CLASSES ONLY fill out the distance learner form and return it to The Graduate School to get your health hold removed. If this form is submitted, the system will not allow you to register for on-campus classes.**
- Deadline - We highly recommend graduate non-degree applications be submitted prior to the first day of the semester. This allows applicants adequate time to submit a pre-registration immunization requirement form to the Curry Health Center, register for courses, finalize, and pay tuition/fees prior to late fee assessment.
***Please note: The online graduate non-degree application is not available after the end of the third week of the term.
Students whose only previous enrollment has been in continuing education courses must use the standard graduate non-degree application to apply.
Students readmitted after a 24 month absence must complete a Pre-Registration Immunization Requirement Form and submit it to the Curry Health Center before registration will be permitted.
