Incoming graduate students may use the information and resources below to become oriented with the University of Montana Graduate School. Complete the following tasks to successfully prepare for your first year at UM. 

Incoming Student Checklist

Update Cyberbear Information

Incoming students will need to update their contact information using Cyberbear. You will need your Net ID.

Set up Student Email

Set up your official University of Montana e-mail account. This e-mail account will be used to correspond with you on official university business. Please visit the student email help page for student email support.

Connect with your Program

Your department/advisor can provide information about your program of study, suggested coursework, and other graduate opportunities.

Secure Housing

Housing in Missoula fills up rapidly before the start of the semester. Visit the UM Housing and Bear Necessities websites for available on and off-campus housing options.

Secure Funding

Graduate students are strongly advised to contact the Financial Aid Office to verify the status of their financial aid. Other funding opportunities can be explored on our Funding page.

Sign up for Health Insurance

The Montana University System requires all students taking 6 or more state supported on campus credits to have and maintain major medical insurance. For more information see the Curry Health Center website.

Graduate School Orientation

Some graduate programs host orientation events, while others do not. For a non-inclusive list of departments and programs that host orientation events, please see our Orientation page.

Bill Payment

Bill payment is made through Business Services.  You can pay in Griz Central in person with the cashiers or pay on-line through your Cyberbear account.  You can find more detailed payment information on Business Services' FAQ page.
