Screen recordings with Camtasia Relay

University of Montana faculty, staff, and students may use Camtasia Relay on campus to produce multimedia recordings of lectures and presentations. The Camtasia Relay Recorder software allows the presenter to capture the computer screen, along with vocal narration. The captured recording is saved as a podcast, videocast and editable file or as a high resolution videocast depending on which profile is selected.

Using Camtasia Relay the first time

We suggest you use iTunesU for the storage and presentation of your academic recordings - especially if you are using these technologies for the first time. Recording in Camtasia for a UM iTunesU account provides the most automatic, hands-off approach. Camtasia does the processing and uploading for you and iTunesU monitors whether only enrolled students or the public can see the recordings.  (Other options are discussed in the Advanced section.)

The process summarized:

  • One Time steps:
    • Step 1: Download Camtasia Relay Recorder software and install on your computer.
    • Step 2: Complete a request for a Camtasia profile through the Interactive Media request form. (Within 48 hours you should see a personal profile after logging into Camtasia Relay when selecting Profiles dropdown arrow in the Presentation Panel. Refer to the first image on the Recording page if you have any questions.)
  • Repetitive steps whenever recording:
    • Step 3: Record your screen
      • If you are recording before specifying a personal profile (step 2 above), use the "Upload and Decide Later" profile.
      • Otherwise, select the appropriate profile available from the dropdown arrow.
    • Step 4: Recordings are automatically placed on iTunesU course pages.
    • Step 5: Students can be directed to view the recordings. (Further iTunesU information is available on the iTunesU pages.)
    •
