SPSS and AMOS software
Information Technology provides annual licensing for SPSS statistical software and AMOS, an add-on module for SPSS. SPSS and AMOS funding is shared between IT and several campus departments. SPSS is a comprehensive software package that includes data management, statistics, and reporting capabilities. The UM site license includes: SPSS Statistics Base, SPSS Advanced Statistics, and SPSS Regressions. AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structures) is a structural equation modeling program that, while it is a separate installation, is launched from within SPSS. Additional modules may be ordered separately through IBM by your department.
UM carries annual maintenance on network licenses for teaching and research purposes. Supported versions are 21 and 22. If you are using an earlier version, we encourage you to upgrade to the most current version which is available on our server.
At UM, two options are available for obtaining the software each contract year:
- Key license server access: Software is installed on a server and is available to users through the campus network on University-owned computers
- Stand-alone license access: Software is installed on University-owned laptops for extended research assignments or off-campus use
UM has a limited number of individual (named) AMOS licenses for AY 15 that have already been purchased for specific UM faculty and researchers. Please contact your departmental technical support staff if you have questions about obtaining AMOS software.
How to request
Employees should contact their departmental technical support staff to determine their best option and obtain assistance with the licensing and download process.
Student use of SPSS is available in the computer lab in UC 225. Additionally, the UM Bookstore sells a 12-month SPSS Premium Academic Version 22 student-only grad pack subscription.
No charge for student use in labs. Employees should check with your departmental technical support staff to see if your department shares in the purchasing cost of SPSS and AMOS.
