Support The T. Anthony Pollner Distinguished Professorship

Ben_and_Anthony_Pollner.jpg"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

In memory of Ben Pollner, friends and family are asked to donate to the T. Anthony Pollner Distinguished Professorship. The family established this teaching position at the University of Montana’s School of Journalism in 2001 in memory of Ben and Alice's son, who was a passionate J-School alum.

Pollner Professors are working journalists and media professionals with diverse and distinguished backgrounds. After a rigorous application process, two Pollner Professors are chosen each year. Professors chosen for fall focus on writing and reporting. The spring semester is devoted to visual or online journalism or the business of journalism. They work directly with our highest-achieving students through a seminar on the topic of their choice. Past professors have included Pulitzer Prize winners and experts in political coverage, sports reporting, long-form journalism, photography, and multimedia. And because Anthony was most devoted to his work at the Montana Kaimin, the student newspaper, the Pollner Professor's most important responsibility is to work daily with the Kaimin staff to help them hone their skills.

Ben's commitment to the fund has not wavered for the last 17 years, and we hope you will join us in strengthening this vital program, now in memory of Anthony and Ben, and to continue to build strong, ethical journalists for Montana and the world.
