ABA Client Counseling
Prof. Eduardo Capulong
The ABA Law Student Division's Client Counseling Competition promotes excellence in client interviewing and counseling. The University of Montana School of Law sends one to two two-person teams to a regional competition each year; we usually compete with schools from the Northwest, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, British Columbia, and Alberta.
To train for the competition, students meet with mock clients, and are intensively evaluated on skills in interpersonal (verbal and non-verbal) communication, questioning, issue-spotting, legal analysis, problem-solving, and professionalism. Students selected for the team(s) receive academic credit for their work.
The University of Montana team is coached by Professor Eduardo Capulong.
Regional competition in Spokane
Out of 12 competing teams, we were the only law school to advance both teams to the semi-final round, at which they were ranked first and second. However, both teams were edged out in the final round.
