Erdmann (’75) to Become Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces
Judge Charles "Chip" Erdmann, a graduate of the University of Montana School of Law, will become the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces in Washington D.C. on August 1, 2015. Erdmann has been a member of the Court since his appointment by President George W. Bush in 2002. He will succeed the Honorable Jamie Baker, former counsel to the National Security Agency under President Clinton before taking the bench.

Professor Williams to Speak at ELR Symposium
Professor Martha Williams has been invited to speak at the 2015 Fordham University Environmental Law Review Symposium. The 2015 symposium, “The Call of the Wild: the Legal Response to Wildlife Conservation in the 21st Century,” will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 in New York City. In addition, Professor Williams will have an article published in the Fordham Law Review 2015 Symposium Edition.

Professor Smith Receives Casey Award
Professor Maylinn Smith received the Casey Excellence for Children Award for a Child Welfare Leadership Team at the annual Casey Family Programs meeting in Seattle, WA on January 13, 2015. Professor Smith's recognition comes from her work with Indian children and families in Montana and with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes social service department regarding specific training relating to the Indian Child Welfare Act.

Professor Russell Co-authors Restating Environmental Law
Professor Irma Russell joins co-authors Tracy Hester, Robert Percival, Victor Flatt, and Joel Mintz in the article entitled Restating Environmental Law. The full version is set to be published in the Spring issue of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law. A synopsis of the article appears as the cover story in the January/February issue of The Environmental Forum, a publication of the Environmental Law Institute.
The group of five co-authors, all elected members of the American Law Institute, head an initiative and work group seeking to encourage the ALI to undertake an environmental law restatement or project to address compelling social concerns relating to environmental law.
