Year Begins with More Students, Higher Academic Markers
The class of 2019 arrived at the Blewett School of Law last week to begin the traditional introductory program. Bucking national trends, this year’s entering class is 10% larger than the previous year’s class, with improved academic indicators. "We had an excellent year recruiting, fueled by increased national interest in our law school," Dean Paul Kirgis said.

Browning Symposium to Address Campus Sexual Assault
This year, the topic of the 2016 Honorable James R. Browning Symposium is Sexual Assault: Conflicts Between Campus and Courts. The Symposium will be held at the School of Law on September 30. It is free and open to the public. 6.75 CLE credits, including 1 ethics credit, can be purchased for $125. Keynote speakers include United States Attorney Michael Cotter and Montana Attorney General Tim Fox, both of whom helped facilitate the agreement between the Department of Justice and the Missoula County Attorney’s Office.

Missoula Attorney, Former Law Instructor Jeremy Thane Passes
Jeremy Thane, founder of one of Missoula’s oldest law firms, Worden Thane, and a past recipient of the prestigious William J. Jameson Award for professionalism and ethics from the State Bar of Montana, passed away last Friday of natural causes at age 89. Among his many contributions to the profession in Montana, Thane taught Trial Tactics and Labor Law at UM, where he received his law degree in 1951. A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at St. Anthony Parish with a lunch reception following. Worden Thane has established a scholarship at the Blewett School of Law in Jeremy’s name. The School of Law's first tailgate of the season will be held Saturday October 1, 2016 at 12:30 p.m., prior to the University of Montana and Southern Utah University football game. All alumni, members of the legal community and family are invited to attend.

Football Tickets Available
A block of tickets has been reserved for the School of Law through the UM Box Office. Those interested will need to provide the access code #12225 to purchase tickets in this block, which is reserved at the south end of the stadium.
