Montana Tax Institute Continues Tradition of Excellence

The 2016 Montana Tax Institute, the 64th installment of the series, extended its tradition of excellence in continuing legal education and tax law, by bringing together nationally-renowned speakers for two days of cutting-edge training. The seminar highlighted topics ranging from taxation of oil, gas and coal to much anticipated Treasury changes in the area of minority control discounts, to the national outlook on estate planning and the coming presidential election. Over 230 participants attended this year’s event, which welcomed the Crowley Fleck law firm as a new sponsor of the Friday lunch.

Professors Mills, Williams Speak on Place-Based Legal Education

Margery Hunter Brown Indian Law Clinic Co-Director Professor Monte Mills' and Land Use & Natural Resources Clinic Co-Director Professor Martha Williams' presentation on "place-based" legal education drew an enthusiastic response at the Northwest Clinical Law Conference held at Warm Springs, Oregon, in early October. Against the high desert backdrop of Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs reservation, the presentation, "Place as Community: Fostering a 'Sense of Place' in Clinic," challenged participants to foster an understanding of the meaning of place and to incorporate the value of a sense of place in their clinics and in their teaching.
