For Managers: Support Employee Success

  • 48 minutes total
  • Online learning is provided through LinkedIn Learning. Please see the OOLD LinkedIn Learning page for directions on logging in with your UM NetID and more information.

2. Attend a session to discuss ideas in more depth

How Managers can Support Employee Success

Thursday, March 2, 3-4:30 p.m., Education 123

Would your team say that they feel comfortable and satisfied coming to work each day? Do you encourage continuous learning and growth within your team? Are you looking for ways to recognize and thank your employees? In this panel discussion, experienced UM managers will share strategies for how to cultivate a positive and supportive workplace environment.

3. Apply something you've learned

After the learning session, each participant will be asked to work on implementing something from the unit. You will also have a chance to discuss your plans with other cohort members to learn how they will apply the concepts from this unit, seek or share advice, and provide some informal peer mentoring support.

Try one of these suggestions for applying your online learning to your management work--or create your own application!

  • Identify a way to recognize one (or more) of your employees. How did they respond?
  • Have a conversation with one of your team members about their professional career goals. How can you support them in achieving their goals?
  • Discuss specific professional development needs with your team and identify LinkedIn Learning courses or other available training for them.
  • Assess your workplace culture and identify any areas that you would like to improve. What is your plan for creating a more positive and respectful workplace?
  • Review OOLD’s list of wellness trainings  and encourage your team to complete at least one.
  • Hold an event designed to increase connection among your team members (coffee break, volunteer project, virtual retreat).
