Who Can Sing in a UM Choir?

ANYONE! Members in our UM Choirs represent nearly all academic areas on campus and include a wide range of abilities.  We will find the choir best suited to you and your schedule.

Placement Meeting:

For all choirs, please sign up for a brief, (very!) friendly placement meeting here:

The placement meeting will take place in Dr. Coreen Duffy's office, Music Room 12. You do not need to prepare anything in advance. The meeting will consist of some vocalization, tonal memory exercises, and possibly some sight-singing. If you have a solo that you'd like to sing, you are welcome to do so a cappella.

 

University Choir (University Choir MUSI 112A/312-01)

  • MWF 11:00-11:50AM
  • Variety of literature from different cultures, style periods and genres
  • Choral-Orchestral Masterwork performance each fall
  • Placement meeting requred

 

Cantemus Women’s Choir (Women’s Choir MUSI 112A/312-03)

  • MWF 1:00-1:50PM
  • Challenging literature from a variety of cultures, style periods and genres
  • Focused training on the female vocal instrument
  • Prior choral experience suggested, but not required
  • Placement meeting required

 

Chamber Chorale (Chamber Chorale MUSI 112A/312-02)

  • MWF 2:00-2:50PM
  • Advanced literature from a variety of cultures, style periods and genres
  • Recognized across the NW as a top performing ensemble
  • Placement meeting required
  • If you are a finalist for Chamber Chorale, you will receive an excerpt to prepare (at your placement meeting) and will be invited to callback auditions on Monday, August 27th, from 6 to 9 pm.
