Personal Summary

Dr. Eva-Maria Maggi teaches topics on European politics and international security at the School of Government and Public Policy at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.  Her primary research interests are the European Union in world politics especially in the Middle East and North Africa and security issues within transatlantic relations. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed books and journals and her book The Will of Change: European Neighborhood Policy, institutional change and domestic actors in Morocco is forthcoming with Springer VS this fall. Before teaching for University of Montana and Arizona, she was a visiting scholar at the Henry M. Jackson School for International Studies at the University of Washington, Seattle and a Ph.D. student at Helmut-Schmidt University in Hamburg, Germany. She was awarded travel and research grants by German Academic Exchange Service, European Union Center of Excellence at the University of Colorado - Boulder, Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Arizona, Friends and Supporters of the Helmut-Schmidt University and the German Marshall Fund. One of her favorite in-class teaching tools are policy simulations that she developed at the UW’s European Union Center of Excellence and are being used by over a dozen university faculty across the U.S. today. When she is not teaching at SGPP or publishing on the EU’s role in the world, she enjoys the outdoors with her family either on horseback or mountain bike but also on a hike or climb.
